March Madness 2019: 8 safest teams to pick that won’t bust your bracket
2. Gonzaga
People haven’t paid a ton of attention to Gonzaga, and their loss in the WCC Final to Saint Mary’s certainly hurt their seeding a bit, but the Bulldogs should still be a solid pick in your bracket. After a string of five straight exits in the Round of 32, Gonzaga has advanced to at least the Sweet 16 in each of the past four years.
The current edition of the Bulldogs is anchored by a future lottery pick in forward Rui Hachimura, who averages 20.1 ppg and 6.6 rpg, and got a huge lift with the recent return of Killian Tillie from injury. Gonzaga also has arguably the most impressive win of the season, topping a fully healthy Duke team in Maui back in November, the only time this season the Blue Devils lost with their complete team.
The Bulldogs still got the no. 1 seed in the West regional, setting them up with a first round matchup against the winner of the First Four matchup between Fairleigh Dickson and Prairie View and a potential showdown with the winner of the 8-9 game between Syracuse and Baylor in the Round of 32. Mark Few seems to have shed the second round jinx in recent years so don’t be afraid to put Gonzaga through to the Sweet 16 of your bracket.
