No. 1: Marquette Golden Eagles

Though maybe not the most overrated team on this list, I was bewildered by the fact that the Marquette team, which has lost five of its past six games, ended up as a No. 5 seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament. They landed in a tough regional bracket. That being said, they may not have to worry much about these other teams.

They did, however, find themselves a victim of scheduling here, as they will face a tough Murray State team that looks better than a No. 12 seed. If there is going to be a 12-5 upset in this year’s tournament, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Ja Morant-led Murray State team take down the No. 5 Marquette Golden Eagles.

Don’t get me wrong this Marquette team, led by Junior Markus Howard (who is currently averaging over 25 points per game) deserved to be in the National Championship this year. I’m just not sure that they were good enough to warrant a No. 5 seed in this bracket. In their last six games, they have lost to Seton Hall (twice), Georgetown, Creighton, and Villanova.

This year’s Marquette team finished at No. 27 in the Kenneth Pomeroy rankings, despite not cracking the top 50 in strength of schedule for the season. Despite this, they come into the NCAA Tournament bracket looking to make their mark, and it starts against a Murray State team who, at times, has played much better than a No. 12 seed.
