Ranking the current top landing spots for Jordy Nelson
1. New England Patriots
The Patriots have added Bruce Ellington and Maurice Harris to their wide receiver mix, while also bringing back Phillip Dorsett. So they are clearly looking to add at the position, with rumored interest in Golden Tate before he presumably zoomed pass their price point and signed with the New York Giants.
With $10 million in cap space right now, barring any other moves to remove money, New England will be shopping in the bargain bin for any further free agent signings. Nelson is just the kind of player who can be sold on the “Patriot Way” in pursuit of a Super Bowl ring though, and his experience working with Rodgers makes a fit with Tom Brady feel like it would be seamless.
Nelson is a step or two slower than he was in his prime, and he’s obviously no longer a No. 1 wide receiver. But he’s clearly not as bad he was for most of the 2017 season, when Rodgers was hurt and Brett Hundley was starting. As a potential piece of a winning equation, and as someone who will surely work diligently to get on the same page with Brady if he comes aboard, it’s no surprise the Patriots have interest in Nelson. And the interest should be mutual.
