Round 2: Midwest Region

Could this be the deepest region, in terms of football talent? It sure seems that way as even the lower-seeded teams have football programs that have contended in recent years. Although No. 1 seed North Carolina advanced, it might be the weakest remaining team after round one in the region.

No. 1 North Carolina vs. No. 9 Washington

Sorry, North Carolina, your Cinderella run stops here. Can you really call it a Cinderella run after one win? For as bad as the Tar Heels were in 2018, absolutely. Washington’s defense will shut the Tar Heels down no problem and North Carolina might score a garbage touchdown late, but this one will be all Huskies as they march toward the Sweet 16.

Final Score: Washington 35, North Carolina 10

No. 5 Auburn vs. No. 4 Kansas

If you paid attention to the Big 12 in 2018, you’d realize that Kansas wasn’t exactly the laughing stock it had been for years. The Jayhawks were still one step away from a layup, but they showed more fight than in previous seasons. Does that mean they’ll pull off an upset over Auburn? No, but the Jayhawks will keep things respectable and the Auburn offense will struggle a bit.

Final Score: Auburn 24, Kansas 16

No. 11 Ohio State vs. No. 3 Houston

Urban Meyer isn’t going to let his last go-round end in the second round against a team like Houston that fell apart in 2018. Dwayne Haskins will in the quarterback duel and the Buckeye running backs will each rush for over 100 yards with Ed Oliver on the sidelines. This one should be a cakewalk for the Buckeyes.

Final Score: Ohio State 42, Houston 17

No. 7 Wofford vs. No. 2 Kentucky

Like Villanova in the South Region, Wofford got a bye in the first round thanks to Seton Hall’s football program ceasing to exist over two decades ago. Kentucky isn’t going to be so kind to the Terriers as Benny Snell will run all over them to the tune of 150 yards and three touchdowns and won’t even need to play in the fourth quarter.

Final Score: Wofford 14, Kentucky 38
