Filling out your NCAA Tournament bracket based on who would win in football
Round 2: West Region
The No. 1 seed in the West Region was the second to go down in this year’s tournament because Gonzaga hasn’t had a football team since the 1940s. Could the No. 16 seed in the region be headed to the Sweet 16 with another ‘upset’?
No. 16 Prairie View vs. No. 8 Syracuse
Prairie View got a pass in the first round, but the same won’t happen here in the second with Syracuse on the docket. Dino Babers and the Orange will run laps around Prairie View on their way to the Sweet 16, looking to keep Syracuse on the college football map. Eric Dungey will have yet another inspiring performance but the Orange won’t need him much in the second half.
Final Score: Prairie View 9, Syracuse 52
No. 12 Murray State vs. No. 4 Florida State
Hey, Florida State might actually catch a break with this matchup and weasel its way into the Sweet 16. The Seminoles got a bye in the first round because Vermont couldn’t field a team and it’ll face an FCS foe in round two on their way to a Sweet 16 berth. We may even see Cam Akers break 100 yards on the ground in this one.
Final Score: Murray State 14, Florida State 31
No. 11 Arizona State vs. No. 3 Texas Tech
Texas Tech began the 2018 season red-hot, but then it got lost, leading to Kliff Kingsbury’s firing. Where do the Red Raiders go from here? It’s not going to be to the Sweet 16 as Herm Edwards will have his troops ready for the aerial attack that will be thrown their way. The Sun Devils continue to surprise as they push their way into the Sweet 16 and Eno Benjamin rushes for another 200 yards.
Final Score: Arizona State 41, Texas Tech 30
No. 10 Florida vs. No. 2 Michigan
A rematch of last year’s Peach Bowl, Florida and Michigan have faced off so many times in postseason play over the years that it almost seems like an inevitable matchup. The Wolverines usually get the better of the Gators, but in Dan Mullen’s first season, that wasn’t the case. Will the Gators prove to be the better team for the second time? It’ll be a much closer matchup, but Jim Harbaugh will once again struggle when the lights are shining the brightest.
Final Score: Florida 27, Michigan 20
