NCAA Tournament 2019: Predicting the perfect March Madness bracket
Midwest Region – Jacksonville, FL (Thursday, March 21)
7 Wofford vs. 10 Seton Hall
The committee certainly gave the Wofford Terriers a vote of confidence by making them a No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament, and it’s hard not to see why. Winners of 20-straight game, they’re perhaps the best shooting team in the country, making 42 percent of their 3-point attempts this season, led by star guard Fletcher Magee. However, Magee isn’t a one-man show as the Terriers can all fill it up from long range.
Meanwhile, the Seton Hall Pirates come into March Madness after going on a late-season run spurred on by star guard Myles Powell. The issue for Seton Hall, though, is that Powell is often a one-man show in the Pirates offense by necessity. As they take on a balanced and lethal 3-point shooting team in Wofford, Powell alone isn’t going to be enough to pull off a win for the 10-seed.
Pick: Wofford
2 Kentucky vs. 15 Abilene Christian
A 15-seed hasn’t upset a No. 2 seed but once in the last five years (Middle Tennessee over Michigan State in 2016), and don’t expect there to be another one in the 2019 NCAA Tournament. The Abilene Christian Wildcats look to upset the Kentucky Wildcats in this matchup, the final one on the bracket. However, John Calipari’s team is likely going to roll to victory.
With P.J. Washington, Tyler Herro and Keldon Johnson taking over as the leaders of this team down the stretch, Kentucky has done their customary trip from troublesome early season showings to looking impressive at the end of the year. And while Abilene Christian is certainly a team that has a lot of talent and defensive effort out of the Southland, they’re no matchup for Big Blue Nation.
Pick: Kentucky
