2019 NFL mock draft: Giants trade up for Dwayne Haskins
By Brad Weiss
The Cincinnati Bengals pulled the switch on the Vontaze Burfict era, as they released their star linebacker this past week. Burfict, while a bit of a headache during his time in Cincinnati, was the player they built their defense around, and it will be up to new head coach Zac Taylor to replace him in 2019.
When looking at player who could help this team, and be an impact player on this defense in year one, Montez Sweat from Mississippi State fits the bill. Sweat drops a bit due to a heart issue detected recently, but he should not fall too far, and the Bengals have a need for his skill set immediately.
Cincinnati has a lot of work to do in terms of their roster, but they do return some talented pieces on the offensive side of the ball. The defense does need work, and a guy like Sweat would come in and help them right away as they look to make an impact in a very wide open AFC North in Taylor’s first season as head coach.
Marvin Lewis did not win a single playoff game in 16 years as the Bengals head coach, so Taylor is coming in with a chance to really make a difference in year one. Sweat is a fantastic player, and one of the more NFL-ready players in this draft class, so Cincinnati taking him with the No. 11 overall pick makes a lot of sense.
