2019 NFL mock draft: Giants trade up for Dwayne Haskins
By Brad Weiss
The Carolina Panthers ended the 2018 in the worst of ways, as they lost seven of their last eight games, as well as their quarterback. The team looked to be steamrolling to a playoff berth last season, but they soon fell on hard times in the second half of the year, and eventually sat down Cam Newton late in the season.
Next season, Newton should be healthy, and ready to go, and the team went out and signed him an elite center already this offseason. Matt Paradis made the surprising move to Carolina in free agency, and should improve this Panthers offensive line immensely in 2019 and beyond, which is good news for Newton.
On defense, the Panthers locked up safety Eric Reid to a three-year deal, solidifying the back end of their secondary. However, Julius Peppers announced his retirement, and with the No. 16 overall pick in April, the Panthers should look to bring in someone who can at least try to fill that void next season. Carolina did sign Bruce Irvin on Tuesday, but Gary is still too good to pass up.
Rashan Gary is a good-looking prospect from Michigan, who has the talent to be an elite edge rusher at the next level. He does so many things well on a football field, has the versatility to play all along the defensive line, and is a guy that could become a leader on this defense, even in year one next season.
