2019 NFL mock draft: Giants trade up for Dwayne Haskins
By Brad Weiss
In our only trade in the first round this time, the New York Giants move up to No. 4 in a frantic move to secure the services of quarterback Dwayne Haskins. General manager Dave Gettleman has stated that he wants to follow the Kansas City Chiefs model, and while Haskins will likely not become Patrick Mahomes, he is a first round talent.
There are other teams who could try to sneak up and grab this pick, and because of that, the Oakland Raiders could end up not only getting the Giants No. 6 pick, but also a second rounder as well. That would be a nice haul for the Silver and Black, and for the Giants, they get their successor to Eli Manning.
While Manning has been a tremendous quarterback for the Giants, winning two Super Bowls, he is entering the twilight of his career. While the organization insists that he has a lot of good football left in him, to not move up and get a quarterback this April is almost negligent.
During his one year as a starter for Ohio State, Haskins threw for 50 touchdowns, while leading the Buckeyes to a Rose Bowl victory. There is no throw he cannot make, and while he is not too mobile, that should not matter, as Manning has proven to be one of the least-mobile quarterbacks in the NFL during his career.
