2019 NFL mock draft: Giants trade up for Dwayne Haskins
By Brad Weiss
The Detroit Lions have a lot of work to do this offseason, as they missed out on the playoffs last year, and finished in dead last in the NFC North. First-year head coach Matt Patricia had a pretty rough season on the sidelines in his first head coaching gig, and will have to prove he is more than just a very good defensive coordinator moving forward.
Luckily for Patricia, the Lions have been very active in free agency this offseason, bringing in some talented players on both sides of the ball. One of those players was former Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jesse James, who should bring some stability to a position that was lacking it during the 2018 season.
While James is a nice piece, the Lions should not stop addition to the position, and T.J. Hockenson is a guy who has shown he may end up being a top-10 pick. Hockenson was someone to keep an eye on heading into the NFL combine, and boy did he show up, putting together one of the impressive performances we have seen from a tight end.
He is going to go in the first round, and if the Lions come calling, teaming him with James would give them an elite duo at the position moving forward. Matthew Stafford has yet to prove he can win big games, but giving him weapons should help, and Hockenson is a player who will be an elite pass-catching tight end at the NFL level.
