Round 2 – Pick 59

Andy Isabella, WR, UMass

An area that was critical to address for the Colts this offseason is the receiver position. They softened the need for them to reach on a receiver with their free agent signee, former Panthers first round Devin Funchess. Funchess gives them a different type of player than T.Y. Hilton and should compliment him well. Pair those two with promising rookie, Deon Cain, who’s season was cut short due to injury, and it’s possible that the Colts may wait on selecting a receiver.

When they do select one, this pick at the bottom of the second round is a sweet spot for it. Massachusetts’ Andy Isabella would be a solid pick at No. 59 overall. The former track star showed off impressive speed with a 4.31 40-yard dash at the Scouting Combine. His excellent speed and impressive routes make up for his diminutive size. This is also the type of player the Colts currently do not have on their roster. Hilton can play like this but he is best served moving all over the formation and as a deep threat with his ball tracking skills. Isabella wins with speed and route running, where he can break short passes for big gains. He also adds an element as a return man.

Isabella is a riser throughout the draft process. It would not be a big surprise to see him sneak into the second round. Teams can always use more pass catchers and Isabella is a good choice to take a chance on. Other options here included Stanford’s J.J. Arcega-Whiteside and Missouri’s Emanuel Hall. In the end, Isabella’s unique skill set offers more to the Colts’ offense than the other two mentioned.
