WWE 205 Live recap for March 19, 2019: Cedric Alexander vs Tony Nese
Trash talk before the main event
Cedric Alexander is spotted backstage in the locker room area getting interviewed about his big match. The main takeaway from Alexander is that he’s confident due to his experience winning a tournament for the vacant Cruiserweight Championship at WrestleMania 34 last year.
Tony Nese and the returning Buddy Murphy make their way into the locker room. Nese claims that he has improved over the past year while Alexander is at the same level with zero improvements. Murphy brags about his past victories over Alexander.
The comeback from Alexander creates tension between Murphy and Nese, since the two friends would have to face off if Nese does win. Nese makes it clear that he’s not Murphy’s sidekick and uses Murphy’s past words — that Nese will become the Cruiserweight Champion one day — before walking out.
This backstage segment was well done to set the tone for multiple layers heading into the main event. There is the potential awkward situation of Murphy facing Nese. Alexander also has a great dynamic with Murphy wanting to get revenge for his past losses.
