Round 3 – Pick 102

Joe Giles-Harris, LB, Duke

This pick comes via the compensatory formula for the Ravens. They were given this pick as a result of the Buccaneers signing their former center Ryan Jensen. Baltimore has always prioritized the compensatory picks that they receive. They are in line to receive high-end picks again next year after losing C.J. Mosely, Terrell Suggs and Za’Darius Smith to big-money deals in free agency.

Mosley might be a tough player to replace for Baltimore. This is a very weak linebacker class after the first two who will be taken before the Ravens even select in Round 1. Mack Wilson will come off the board in Round 2. There are very few, if any, starting-caliber linebackers from the remaining group.

One intriguing player for the Ravens is Duke’s Joe Giles-Harris. He may not be an elite athlete who can play sideline to sideline but that’s not always what the Ravens want in their middle linebackers. In fact, Giles-Harris is close athletically to the numbers that Mosley put up during his combine performance. The key for both is their ability to play instinctual football and be sound tacklers in the middle.

Giles-Harris is a solid selection who can step in and come close to Mosley’s production at a fraction of the cost. He is limited due to his athletic profile. But Baltimore will love his high football I.Q. and ability to play smart football in the middle of their defense.
