WWE NXT: The 5 count for March 20, 2019
By Matt Black
4. Adam Cole is heading to Brooklyn … Bay bay!
In the main event (not to mention the only match of the evening) we see Adam Cole get the pinfall victory over Ricochet to secure his title match against Gargano at NXT Takeover. This was a fantastic match and arguably the best match on WWE TV this week. While some could argue that Kofi Kingston’s gauntlet match on SmackDown Live on Tuesday night was the best match of the week, the involvement of Vince McMahon took away from its overall impact and its finish.
There was nothing of the sort in this match: no interference, no shenanigans, just a straight up hard-hitting wrestling match with five men who put it all on the line to be able to earn the right to head to Brooklyn for a chance to become NXT Champion.
The two most logical winners for this match were either Cole or Riddle; Ricochet and Black are already involved in the Dusty Classic and are well into the process of being introduced on Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live. And Velveteen Dream already has the NXT North American Championship.
While Cole and Gargano have faced each other before prior to their times in NXT, this will be the first time they meet one-on-one in a WWE ring. With the NXT Championship on the line, this match will certainly be special.
