Round 3 – Pick 86

Darrell Henderson, RB, Memphis

Outside of the offensive line, a way to help a young quarterback is putting weapons around him. Houston has an elite receiving corps with DeAndre Hopkins leading the way as possibly the best receiver in the league. Will Fuller and Keke Coutee offer complimentary skill sets and give the Texans an arsenal of weapons in the passing attack. At running back, Lamar Miller is still a solid back but is long in the tooth. Long-time back-up Alfred Blue is a free agent. Former third round pick D’Onta Foreman has been unable to stay healthy. They need to add a back to compliment Miller and prepare for Foreman not being healthy.

Darrell Henderson of Memphis would be a great fit. A true home run threat every time he touches the ball, Henderson is a rare speed back in this class that features very few. Where he can excel in the NFL is on the edges and as a pass-catching back. He is not a good pass protector but when he is on the field for passing plays, he can catch a swing pass and take it to the house.

Henderson would benefit from being part of the stable of Miller and Foreman. Houston could opt for more of a power back but Henderson’s sturdy frame complimented by legit 4.4 speed is a dynamic combination. The Texans can work him into their offense slowly. If Miller slows down or Foreman is unable to recover from his most recent injury, Henderson can be a bigger part of the offense. It is tough to see him not at least carving out some role in an offense given his speed and big-play ability.
