Round 3 – Pick 91

Sean Bunting, CB, Central Michigan

After losing corner Jason Verrett, the Chargers are still okay at the corner position. Long-time starter Casey Hayward is still there and a very good player. Hayward will be 30 before the start of next season. Young slot corner Desmond King is making his case for the best inside corner in the NFL as his play grows. Trevor Williams, who is slated to start there as it stands, was excellent last year and is entering his fourth year. Williams had a bit of a regression after an excellent sophomore campaign. In a league that is so pass happy and a conference with Patrick Mahomes, having capable corners is a must.

Central Michigan’s Sean Bunting is a rising prospect. Many will point to his very impressive combine as to why. In reality Bunting put together excellent tape, albeit at a small school. His combine performance only solidified what many saw on tape. Bunting is a big and long corner with excellent explosiveness on the vertical and horizontal plane. His lack of agility testing likely points to the fact that would have been area he struggles.

On tape he uses that length and recovery speed to nail receivers to the boundary and ride them out of plays. Bunting needs to work on his physicality in order to be a long term starter. A system that plays a ton of press will not suit him very well. Los Angeles is more of a zone team and can maximize Bunting’s athletic and physical gifts.
