Round 2 – Pick 38

Dalton Risner, T, Kansas State

With the first pick, it came down to Metcalf and Florida tackle Jawaan Taylor. Jacksonville needs to find someone to fill in for the departed Jeremy Parnell and Cedric Ogbuehi is not it. Will Richardson has potential but is not ready to be the guy, either. That leaves a big hole at right tackle opposite Cam Robinson. Why not find a guy in the same spot the team selected Robinson, atop the second round?

A great combination of style-of-play, front office and prospect is Kansas State’s Dalton Risner and the Jaguars. Despite what many are saying, this guy is a tackle, and a good one. He may lack the requist length teams look for, but he makes up for it in other ways. Risner is a mean tackle that wants to dominate every rep. Coughlin will fall in love with him for that.

What Risner lacks in length he makes up for in power. There is not a body put in front of him that he cannot move. Even in pass sets, he showed the ability to run guys up the arc and win one-on-one.

Jacksonville could look to address the interior of their offensive line here. Having recently signed Andrew Norwell on a big deal next and paired up with Brandon Linder gives them a solid duo. A.J. Cann was also brought back to fill in that third spot. It is not a position to prioritize over an elite tackle prospect.
