4. Rey Mysterio vs Eddie Guerrero (WrestleMania 21)

WrestleMania 21 may very well be the most underrated opening match when looking back at it. Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio faced off in a singles match with the story of friendly competition since they were the WWE Tag Team Champions at the time. These two wrestlers always had classics together. The main reason this match doesn’t get the love it deserves is because they had even better matches on other occasions.

Mysterio and Guerrero still delivered an outstanding effort that had the Los Angeles fans on the edge of their seats to start the night. The frustration shown by Guerrero in the match created the story that would follow it for months, that Guerrero could not defeat Mysterio. This opening match win for Mysterio was great at the time, but it also set up an intense rivalry that would last for the next six months. A combination of the great match and the planting of the seeds for a deeper story makes this a WrestleMania opener classic.
