10 MLB prospects who can help your fantasy baseball team in 2019
3. Nick Senzel, OF/3B/2B, Cincinnati Reds
The second overall pick in the 2016 draft, Senzel has been as good as advertised with no less than a .305 batting average in all three of his minor league seasons. If not for a second bought with vertigo, and a broken right index finger that ended his season early, he may have made his major league debut last year.
Senzel has played third or second base for all but one game in the minors, but the Reds are set at those spots this year with Eugenio Suarez and Scooter Gennett respectively. So Senzel is being given an opportunity to win the starting job in center field, if only as a clear path to the Opening Day roster. That would push Scott Schebler to the bench, which stands to be beneficial in the big picture for Cincinnati as they field their best 25 guys.
Concerns about his vertigo and any other durability concerns add some risk to having Senzel prominently on a fantasy roster. But as long as he’s in the big leagues early in the season, after being assigned to minor league camp late in the spring, Senzel’s got the potential for across the board production in a good Reds’ lineup. And he should have multi-position utility to boot.
