2. Luis Urias, SS/2B, San Diego Padres

Yes, there are three Padres on this list. But Urias has the clearest path to a starting spot right away, aside from the ever-present service time concerns. A hamstring injury kept him from seeing more substantial time in the big leagues last year (12 games, 53 plate appearances), but Urias hit very well in Triple-A (.296/.398/.447, .845 OPS, .151 ISO) and used the whole field (33.5 percent of batted balls to the opposite field last year).

Urias is tentatively in line to be the Padres’ Opening Day shortstop right now, then he’ll probably shift over to second base (and displace Ian Kinsler) when Fernando Tatis Jr. arrives. So fantasy eligibility at both spots appears likely for Urias in due time, depending on how many games are required to qualify at a position in your league.

Urias won’t supply a ton of power  (17 home runs over 467 minor league games), or supplement his line with stolen bases (two last year). But a middle infielder who can hit for average and supply good totals in runs and RBI has a place in fantasy baseball, and that looks like Urias as he may sit atop what looks like a sneaky good Padres’ lineup.
