1. New York Jets

There were very few teams as active this offseason as the New York Jets. They signed C.J. Mosley to man the middle of their defense. Then went out and signed Le’Veon Bell to be the team’s best weapon on offense. Jamison Crowder will give Sam Darnold a weapon as a slot receiver as well. A trade for Kelechi Osemele secured one spot along a shaky offensive line. Why not keep going and trade for Gerald McCoy? Even with their spending spree, the Jets clock in with the seventh most available cap space in the entire NFL.

New defensive coordinator Gregg Williams will need a penetrating defensive tackle in his new defense the Jets will be running. McCoy is one of the best in the business there. If the trade talks surrounding Leonard Williams are true, the Jets will have a very young and inexperienced defensive line. Even if Williams stays, the pairing between the two is impressive and can make up for a lack of outside pass rushing else where.

New York has more than enough money to retain McCoy past this season as well. Again, his contract is so team friendly that during any of the next three offseasons he can be released with zero cap impact. The aggressive regime in New York is going all-in with Sam Darnold and the new coaching staff. A player like Gerald McCoy is the type of impact player that may not show up on the stat sheet but will make winning plays and everyone around him better.
