4. Greedy Williams

Darius Slay is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. Sadly for the Lions, no other corner on their roster is worthy of starting on the opposite side. If Detroit doesn’t go with an edge rusher in Round 1, cornerback is the only other position that makes sense.

Williams is a guy who’s taken a lot of grief so far during the pre-draft process. Lots of scouts and media members seem to be squarely focused on what he doesn’t do well. Mainly, he shows a lack of interest in tackling when you watch his LSU film.

That’s caused the narrative surrounding Williams to forget about what makes him a special prospect. He’s got elite size and speed for the cornerback position. When you watch his college film you see a guy with the athleticism to make up for a lot of mistakes. If he gets with a coaching staff who can clean up his technique and help instill a little toughness in his game, he could easily emerge as a Pro Bowler.

Building your defense with two elite corners is a really good blueprint for success in the NFL. Patricia knows that and that’s why Williams will get a look from the Lions at No. 8.
