Round 3 – Pick 96

Connor McGovern, G, Penn State

Interior offensive line is a smaller need for this Redskins team. Manning one guard spot is Brandon Scherff who is one of the best in the entire league. At center and the other guard spot is where the team could use an upgrade. Currently slated to start are Chase Roullier and Tyler Catalina. Rollier is a former sixth-round pick that took over as the starter in 2018. He graded as an average center according to Pro Football Focus. Catalina was an undrafted free agent who has bounced on and off the Redskins roster. He is not a long term answer at the position.

Penn State’s Connor McGovern could be. He is a three year starter for the Nittany Lions, with one of those coming at center. Positional versatility along the offensive interior is extremely important in the NFL and McGovern brings that. He’s got the required athleticism to excel in any scheme. Where he is best is using that athleticism and power to move players across from him. His pass sets need some cleaning up but his problems are teachable. That is big, considering the Redskins have shown great promise developing offensive lineman.

McGovern may not be ready right away, although Washington would want him to be. When he cleans up the minor mistakes, he’s got starter written all over him. This is the type of move that balances an already good offensive line and makes them elite.

Round 4 – No Pick

This pick was traded to the Packers for safety Haha Clinton-Dix midseason. Clinton-Dix has since left the team via free agency to sign with the Chicago Bears.
