Edge. Florida State. Brian Burns. 16. player. 87.

The Carolina Panthers have done a nice job bolstering their defense this offseason, re-signing Eric Reid to a three-year deal, and bringing in edge rusher Bruce Irvin. Those are great moves considering they will have to replace a legendary player on their defense, as Julius Peppers decided to retire this offseason.

While the addition of Irvin is nice, he did not play well towards the end of his career in Oakland, and was nothing special in Atlanta. To rely on him to anchor your pass rush is silly at this point, and with the No. 16 overall pick in April, Carolina should look to add one of the better young pass rushers in this draft class.

During his time at Florida State, Brian Burns established himself as one of the best edge rushers in college football, and could have been a first round pick last year. He is the perfect player to replace Peppers, who is certainly headed to the Hall of Fame, and alongside Luke Kuechly, was the heart and soul of this defense.

Irvin and Burns would be a fantastic tandem for the Panthers next season, as they look to return to the playoffs after a one-year absence. Of course, the season will hinge on the right shoulder of Cam Newton, and after having to be shut down towards the end of last season, he is the biggest question mark heading into the summer.
