The Detroit Lions are a team to keep an eye on next season, as they have made some nice moves with the roster heading into 2019. Last season, Matt Patricia struggled mightily to get wins on a consistent basis in  his first season as the team’s head coach, and he should be more prepared for the rigors of the position in year two.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford is one of those guys who is always going to put up numbers, and the team added a nice weapon around him this offseason in Danny Amendola. On defense, Detroit brought in the most coveted edge rusher in this free agency class, signing Trey Flowers away from  the New England Patriots.

Even with Flowers in the mix, the Lions should continue to add talent on the edge, and Montez Sweat would be an absolute steal at No. 8 overall. Sweat was diagnosed with a heart issue in recent weeks, but that should not affect his draft status too much, as he was able to compete at the combine.

Detroit has paid a ton of money to Stafford, who has yet to prove that he can win big games at the NFL level. The additions of Sweat and Flowers up front on defense would give them an incredible tandem on the edge, and in the NFC North, you have to be able to get after the quarterback on every play.
