3. Tennessee at No. 6 Vanderbilt

Why it’s important

The Tennessee Vols need to find out just how good they are. During the first half of the 2019 SEC baseball season, the Vols have been one of the best, if not the best, pitching teams in the conference.

We still don’t know if Tennessee will be able to score enough to support their pitching. The Vols bounced back nicely this past weekend winning their series with the South Carolina Gamecocks after they were swept by Auburn in the SEC opener. They’ll need to carry that momentum over to this weekend against one of the best teams in the country.

Vanderbilt wants to prove their opening weekend series loss to the Texas A&M Aggies was just a fluke, and their team is more like the one that dominated the Florida Gators last weekend. There is no shortage of talent for the Commodores, and if Tennessee wants to pull off the upset this weekend, they’ll need their pitching staff to be at their best.

Prediction

The Vols have been a pleasant surprise among the SEC baseball teams in the early part of the 2019 season. However, this is going to be too big of a task to overcome. Vanderbilt should easily take the series, and it would not be surprising if they did so in a sweep.
