5 teams that should trade for Josh Rosen
3. New York Giants
When you win a total of eight games over a two-year span after finishing 11-5 in 2016 and grabbing a wild card berth, there’s obviously a lot of work to be done. A year ago, the New York Giants named Dave Gettleman their new general manager and hired Pat Shurmur to be their latest head coach. And after setting a franchise record for losses in a season in ’17 during a 3-13 showing, Big Blue opened with a 1-7 record this past season.
But there were signs of improvement the second half of 2018. The Giants split their final eight games and during one stretch managed four wins in a five-game stretch. But Shurmur’s team also enters this coming year riding a three-game losing streak. It’s also a club that will be minus a pair of prominent players in wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and pass-rusher Olivier Vernon, each dealt to the Cleveland Browns in totally separate trades.
The target of many people’s angst when it comes to the deterioration of this team has been veteran quarterback Eli Manning. And there is certainly some merit to the fact that the two-time Super Bowl champions has been less-than-spectacular in recent years. The lack of offensive balance by this club has hurt as well, as has the play of a defensive unit that is a shell of itself from 2016. And Manning has played behind an offensive line that hasn’t done him many favors as well. All told, it’s been a total team effort when it comes to its subpar play.
Manning turned 38 years old in January. Thanks to Gettleman’s wheeling and dealing, the team has 12 draft choices this year – including the sixth and 17th overall selections. The team could certainly part with a mid-round pick or picks for Josh Rosen while using their earlier selections to fix its other ills.
