5 teams that should trade for Josh Rosen
2. Miami Dolphins
No doubt the phrase “Tanking for Tua” has become part of the conversation when it comes to the Miami Dolphins and a few other teams as well. Of course, that’s also in reference to University of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, a talented prospect who figures to be available in 2020.
But what about the Dolphins’ aspirations for ’19? The team has a new head coach in Brian Flores, late of the defensive staff of the New England Patriots. Meanwhile, general manager Chris Grier had this to say late last week (via Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald) in regards to the team’s “plan” going forward:
"We’re going to keep building it from Day 1. We made the change. We talked about building the foundation and building it up the right way. So that’s all it is. There’s no tanking. You say you want tough, competitive guys who love ball and you bring them in and say, ‘Hey let’s do it but not this year, let’s just relax and enjoy this year? And we’ll come back next year and be tough and competitive?’ So you draft those types of guys…As Brian (Flores) has talked about we’re competing but we’re going to build it the right way. We’re going to be smart about it. And just acquiring picks is another way to hopefully speed up the process for us."
The changes include dealing quarterback Ryan Tannehill to the Tennessee Titans and defensive end Robert Quinn to the Dallas Cowboys. They include signing journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick while watching other veterans such as end Cameron Wake and tackle Ju’Waun James leave free agency. Along with Fitzpatrick, the only other quarterbacks on the team’s current roster are Jake Rudock and Luke Falk. A deal to acquire a promising talent like Josh Rosen to groom behind a veteran signal-caller would make perfect sense for a rebuilding franchise.
