Indianapolis Colts

Key Additions: EDGE Justin Houston, WR Devin Funchess

Key Departures: WR Ryan Grant, WR Dontrelle Inman

Grade: B

The Indianapolis Colts only made a pair of big moves, but they were able to add two key contributors at positions of need. Coming into the offseason, they knew they needed to add a capable edge rusher and one more weapon for Andrew Luck, and while there may have be more effective options available, veteran edge defender Justin Houston and wide receiver Devin Funchess were smart signings.

Funchess is coming off of a horrid season with the Carolina Panthers, but he was once on the rise as one of Cam Newton’s top targets. He could have a much better year in Indianapolis, working across from No. 1 target TY Hilton and catching passes from an on-fire Andrew Luck.

The Colts should also be praised for re-signing key free agents, notably cornerback Pierre Desir, who deserves more attention as one of the league’s better cornerbacks. Re-signing Desir was a priority for the Colts, and they were able to keep him at an affordable price.

On top of that, the Colts didn’t lose anyone important. Grant can play and Inman has carved a lengthy career for himself, but Funchess has more upside than either of them and brings something different to the table with his size. In Funchess and Eric Ebron, the Colts have two big-time red zone weapons for Luck, who will look to build on last season’s success in his return to the field by pushing for an MVP.

This is a team on the rise with Frank Reich at the helm, and after a quality free agent period, the Colts are clearly a team to watch on draft day.
