Jacksonville Jaguars

Key Departures: RB T.J. Yeldon, DT Malik Jackson, RB Carlos Hyde, QB Blake Bortles, WR Donte Moncrief, RT Jeremy Parnell, TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins

Grade: B-

The Jacksonville Jaguars shouldn’t bank on Nick Foles as anything more than a stopgap, but in a draft class where there are only two high-level prospects in Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins – and one additional first-round flier candidate in Drew Lock – Jacksonville needed to make this acquisition to buy themselves some time.

If Foles is every bit the Super Bowl-winning quarterback that some think he is, then the Jaguars will be happy to keep him around as their starter. If he isn’t, the Jaguars can look to a young quarterback in the 2020 class, because they don’t seem to have a realistic shot at either Haskins or Murray this year with the seventh overall pick.

Chris Conley is the most intriguing signing beyond Foles, because he has special physical tools. Conley once led all receivers with a 4.35 forty, 18 bench press reps, a 139-inch broad jump, and a 45-inch vertical at the 2015 Combine. His potential has never been questioned, but the 26-year-old failed to make an impact in his four years with the Kansas City Chiefs. But Conley still has breakout potential and is a high-upside replacement for Donte Moncrief behind the talented wide receiver duo of Marqise Lee and Dede Westbrook.

Jaguars fans won’t worry about any of the departures. Malik Jackson is an excellent player but was an expected casualty, and the Jags have more than enough pass rushing power. Backup running backs are replaceable, and the Jaguars can make offensive line upgrades for Foles in the draft.
