Round 2 – Pick 50

Deebo Samuel, WR, South Carolina

A sneaky need for the Vikings is at the wide receiver position. The combination of Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs is as elite as they come in the NFL. Both are on long term deals and young, making both long-term pieces for this offense. The third player behind that duo is former first round pick Laquon Treadwell. It is safe to say that he did not live up to his lofty draft spot. The fall-off after that is massive. Finding another passing game weapon for Minnesota would be a wise investment.

Deebo Samuel is a name to watch in the middle of the second round. The former South Carolina receiver was a game-breaking offensive weapon. Despite poor quarterback play, Samuel came on strong at the end of his final season after a slow start. What he brings is a versatile weapon who can play inside and out. His best skills are his route running and run after the catch ability. Samuel also gives an added perk of being a dynamite kick and punt returner.

For Minnesota this would give them a weapon to play outside with Diggs while Thielen remains in his best role; working from the slot. Samuel may not be a true top option at the NFL level but for this offense it makes a ton of sense. Cousins needs to get the ball out of his hands quicker. With Samuel’s toughness over the middle and route running prowess, he’d be an ideal player type.
