We’ve seen it too often to be surprised at this point. A top prospect shows up at the combine, where he receives the most thorough medical exam of his life, and a red flag is raised by the experts. At that point, it does not matter if the medical condition is pre-existing, previously known about by the college or scouts, etc. Instead, all that matters is the risk.

Sweat is a top 10 talent according to most all of the top evaluators. Unfortunately for him, most experts also believe its the deepest draft for first-round EDGE rushers in recent history. Teams might take a top 15 risk on Sweat if he was the only option available – but that is unlikely to be true for any of the teams picking in that range who are in need of an edge.

Instead of going early, expect Sweat’s heart condition report from the combine to push him in to the 20s somewhere. He could be a target for the Raiders with their third first-round choice. Another team to watch? The Kansas City Chiefs, who could trade up to 20 or so and grab him.

This is unfortunate for the Mississippi State product, particularly if his agent is accurate when he stated that this is not news to him. He was almost assuredly a top 10 pick before any of this came out.
