2019 NFL mock draft: Kyler Murray heads to Cardinals at No. 1
By Brad Weiss
The Detroit Lions are another team that has had a solid offseason, bringing in the best edge rusher available via free agency. The Lions agreed to a monster deal with former New England Patriots edge rusher Trey Flowers, who will step in and fill the void left by Ziggy Ansah in 2019 and beyond.
While Flowers is an elite talent, the Lions should not consider themselves done at the position, and it would make sense to utilize the No. 8 pick on a defensive end. Despite the fact a heart issue was detected this offseason, Montez Sweat should not fall out of the top-10, as he is one of the more elite athletes in this draft class.
Sweat was cleared to compete in the combine, which is a great sign, as Oakland Raiders Maurice Hurst had a heart issue detected last year and was ruled out. In Sweat, the Lions would be getting the bookend they need alongside Flowers on this defensive line, giving them arguably the best tandem in the NFC North at the position.
Detroit still has to figure out what they have in Matthew Stafford at quarterback, as he is great at putting up numbers, but has yet to win any big games. This is a team that definitely got better so far this offseason, and with a solid draft class, they could make some noise in a very good division in 2019.
