3. They can handle the Warriors, in theory

The Warriors look more vulnerable than they have in either of the two previous seasons and with a host of Western Conference challengers emerging, there’s no guarantee that Golden State would be the Final Boss for a Celtics title run. Still, there’s no team in the West that presents more potential problems, and yet…Boston would seem to have what they need.

The Celtics have multiple defenders they can throw at Durant and Klay — Morris, Tatum, Ojeleye, Brown and Hayward. They have a human bear trap — Marcus Smart — that they can set on Curry. They have an excellent interior defender to deal with DeMarcus Cousins. They have enough ball-handlers and creators to take the Warriors switches and still targets the mismatches they want, and the versatility to try and avoid the same fate at the other end. In last season’s playoffs, Houston came as close as anyone has to beating the Durant-Warriors in the playoffs by switching everything and scoring just enough. The Celtics can replicate that formula.
