2. The underdog

Everyone loves a good underdog story. The come-from-behind victory when all seemed lost. This is one of the reasons the WWE Universe has taken to Becky Lynch in the first place. Lynch herself has said time and again that she wasn’t supposed to be the main event. She was meant to be a steady hand and a good worker but never at the top spot. Well, they don’t call her “Becky Balboa” for nothing, because like the classic underdog story of Rocky Balboa, Lynch fought and clawed her way to the top of the division.

A true student of the game, Lynch has said that her mind is constantly thinking about wrestling and how she can make the people interested in her matches. So the Irish Lasskicker was not content sitting in catering, or being used only to put other Superstars over. Every chance she got she’d put in the work to make her matches and promos memorable. And even when she wasn’t being shown on television, Lynch was working on generating interest. Her ingenious use of social media has since become legendary, with others taking note of how to follow her lead to get themselves over.

They say preparation meets opportunity and Lynch was prepared when the WWE finally gave her a chance to shine. Now she is the main event at WrestleMania, where only a year before she was on the Kickoff Show as just another member of the Women’s Battle Royal. The consummate underdog, she had to earn her way into the main event not once, but twice. She’s fought back from injuries both real and kayfabe, overcame two suspensions and thwarted the McMahon family patriarch at every turn. Having “The Man” claim victory in the match she’s fought so hard to be a part of would be the culmination of her meteoric rise of success and cap the underdog story.

1. Winner takes it all

During the April 1 episode of Monday Night Raw, Stephanie McMahon proceeded to up the stakes in the triple threat main event match by implementing a winner-take-all stipulation. Whoever walks out of MetLife Stadium will be the double-champ, representing both SmackDown and Raw. This added stipulation has Becky Lynch’s name all over it.

Ever since her win at the Royal Rumble, Lynch has pulled double-duty showing up on both brands — much to the delight of the crowds. To be fair, Charlotte Flair has also been popping up on Raw a lot lately too even though she, like Lynch, are currently inked to the blue brand. But this isn’t about the Queen, this is about Lynch being the hottest babyface in the women’s division — on both brands.

Neither Flair nor Rousey has the same energy behind them to be centered in the ring, holding both titles high to the adulation of over 80,000 strong at the culmination of this history-making main event. That’s Lynch’s moment to be written. WWE needs a key player to be their representative on both programs when SmackDown moves to Fox later this year. And since they’ve finally got on board with the undeniable popularity “The Man” brings to the product it seems likely she will be called upon as the face of the WWE women’s division following WrestleMania.

It remains to be seen what will happen when the dust settles after WrestleMania 35. Will the titles be unified? Will Lynch defend both titles, or perhaps one will be put up into the Queen of the Ring tournament that’s been rumored for the next all-women’s event. Those questions will be answered in due time. But the answer to the question as to who will take it all at WrestleMania 35 is definitively Lynch.
