Round 3: Will Harris

Bringing back Eric Reid filled one starting safety spot for the Panthers, but the team doesn’t really know who they want to be his partner in 2019. Drafting Harris might not give Carolina an immediate starter, but he would give Rivera and his staff another versatile defender in the secondary.

Harris really helped himself by running a 4.41 40 at the Combine. That time really answered any questions scouts had about his top-end speed. The former Boston College star should develop into a safety who can run with receivers in the final third of the field.

Similar to Edwards, Harris isn’t a guy who will enter the NFL as a finished product. He still needs some work on trusting his instincts at the safety position. His collegiate tape shows him to be a little timid when he’s asked to make adjustments on the fly.

Harris is also a guy the Panthers could use as their big nickel on certain occasions. He wasn’t asked to cover a lot of slot receivers in college, but he has the speed and hips required to play that spot. The Panthers need to add another guy to their safety mix and Harris would represent good value in the third round.
