3. Clelin Ferrell

The former Clemson star continues to be one of the most difficult guys to nail down in this draft. He isn’t the sexiest edge rusher in this class, but he does most everything pretty well. A 3-4 team like Washington may view him as the ideal guy to help solidify their defensive line.

His size definitely makes him attractive as a defensive end who can stand up against the run at the next level. The downside to Ferrell is that he may struggle to get to the opposing quarterback if he’d asked to play in a three-man front. Clearly that’s not a requirement in a scheme like the Redskins, but it would be a nice bonus.

The real issue here with Ferrell is that Washington may feel like they can find a similar prospect later in the draft. This is a deep class at defensive end, and if you’re not looking for an elite pass rusher you can find great value on Day Two or even Day Three. Ferrell might not be dynamic enough to interest the Redskins this high.

If Washington does pull the trigger on Ferrell at No. 15 you can safely assume they believe he’ll start at defensive end for the team for years to come. If that happens, no one can criticize the selection.
