1. Brighton end Manchester City’s quadruple hopes

Manchester City and Brighton play out the first FA Cup semifinal on Saturday in what could be an exciting matchup. The Seagulls have had a mediocre season in the league but their Cup run has been particularly impressive.

Manchester City are of course having an amazing season which could end with them lifting four trophies — something no manager has ever done in the history of the Premier League. The FA Cup is where the Light Blues have fallen down in recent seasons, though.

Pep Guardiola’s men are making a much better go of it than last season, when they went out against an inspired Wigan side. City are playing more like champions than they’ve ever done before though. They’ve never retained the Premier League title yet they have a very good chance of doing that this season. They’ve also not let losses get to them and just returned to form immediately.

Brighton will know an FA Cup semifinal won’t come around too often for them and they’ll be absolutely desperate to make sure that they remain competitive over the course of 90 minutes. Chris Hughton will know that his side can do that but they will need to be at their absolute best.

Manchester City were undone by Swansea in the quarterfinals and were incredibly lucky to get through thanks to some poor refereeing decisions. Hughton and Brighton will need to look to Swansea’s game plan for some inspiration and try to implement it against Guardiola’s men.

If they can do that or come even close to that then they may have a chance in this semifinal. Their defensive will need to be solid and they will have to rely on the experienced Glenn Murray having one of the best games of his life.
