A Discovery of Witches makes its long-awaited debut on AMC and BBC America. Here’s what you need to know to watch Episode 1 on TV and online.

The worldwide phenomenon known as A Discovery of Witches is finally coming to American television with its premiere on AMC and BBC America on Sunday, April 7. The show, from producers SkyOne in the UK, set records for streaming services Sundance Now and Shudder.

A Discovery of Witches is based on the bestselling series of novels from author Deborah Harkness. She has built a world where witches, daemons and vampires live side by side with humans, who have no idea of their existence. The problem is that creatures are dying out, and Matthew Clairmont wants to know why.

Meanwhile, Diana Bishop is at Oxford to do research and teach, and she calls Ashmole 782 from the Bodleian Library only to find that the magical book only comes when the right person calls for it. Soon Oxford is humming with activity as other creatures learn what she did, and this makes her a target.

Here’s the episode description of A Discovery of Witches “Episode 1” from AMC:

"“In Oxford’s library, American historian and reluctant witch Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up an ancient magical manuscript, and finds herself confronted by geneticist and vampire Matthew Clairmont, who is determined to get his hands on the book.”"

A Discovery of Witches was a massive hit for the UK’s Sky One and has already been renewed for two more seasons, with each season covering the events of an entire book in the original trilogy. Given that the show was so successful for US streaming services Sundance Now and Shudder, it’s quite possible that the series will continue beyond three seasons.
