2019 NFL Draft: 5 players Vikings could take in Round 1
1. Jonah Williams
NFL scouts have similar position concerns about Williams that they do about Ford, but he’s generally regarded to be a more advanced and accomplished prospect. That doesn’t mean the Vikings necessarily feel that way about him, but the league does regard Williams as one of the best lineman in the draft.
Williams isn’t a hugely physical player, but he is one of this class’ best technicians. He was well coached at Alabama and that should allow him to be an early contributor at the next level.
The former Crimson Tide star could really do a lot to improve Cousins’ security. Pressure in the quarterback’s face was a big issue for Minnesota last year. Deploying Williams at right tackle would do a lot to clean up those issues.
It is very possible that Williams isn’t available when the Vikings go on the clock, but he’ll get strong consideration from Minnesota if he’s still there. Acquiring an immediate starter at tackle would qualify as a success for this front office in the first round.
