2. RHP Scott Blewett

Scott Blewett has every tool to find his way in to the starting rotation in 2019. The 6-foot-6 right-hander was drafted out of high school by the Royals in the second round of the 2014 draft.

He was added to the Royals 40-man roster after a strong campaign in 2018 at the AA level followed by a stellar performance in the Arizona Fall League. In the AFL, Blewett logged six starts, tallying four wins and finishing with an ERA of 2.49.

His arsenal consists of a strong fastball and curveball with a developed change-up. He might not have the wow factor that some of the higher-ranked pitching prospects such as Brady Singer or Jackson Kowar possess, but he does have the durability and innings under his belt that make him a viable option for an end-of-the-rotation starter.

The Royals’ rotation has gotten off to a strong start in 2019 and seems to have three starters locked in: Brad Keller, Jakob Junis and Jorge Lopez. However, with Danny Duffy on the IL and Ian Kennedy being moved to the bullpen, there are some vacancies in the rotation. Blewett likely won’t make an appearance early in the year, but his presence on the 40-man roster certainly gives him a window for success, should the Royals look for another option within the farm system.
