3. RHP Beau Burrows

The Tigers drafted Burrows in the first round (No. 22 overall) out of high school in 2015, and he has shown ability to be a workhorse with 26 starts and at least 134 innings pitched in each of the last two seasons. In his first start for Triple-A Toledo this year, he had seven strikeouts with two hits allowed and two walks over four innings.

Burrows is still developing a full arsenal of secondary pitches, but he has a plus-curveball to go with a fastball that maxes out in the mid-90s. Control has been a bit of an issue, with a 3.8 BB/9 over a full season in Double-A last year that seemed to be at the core of an ERA over 4.00 (4.43). But MLB.com’s scouting report points to better control coming naturally with being able to repeat his delivery more consistently.

Burrows currently projects as a mid-rotation starter, with some upside to be more if he can continue to develop on some key margins. It’s certainly not out of the question that the Tigers will give him his first taste of the big leagues before the season is over.
