3. Playoff experience

This was an easy point to poach from last season’s article because the experienced players gained another year of playoff hockey and last season’s less experienced guys are now seasoned veterans. Okay, that’s a bit of a stretch, but if you thought Jake DeBrusk was potent last year, just wait until you see him on this run.

DeBrusk is a high-energy, high-level player — an elite offensive talent who notched 27 goals in his second campaign and celebrated each and every one of them like it was scored in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final. DeBrusk does this because he plays every minute of every game with everything he’s got. He lives and dies by the energy he brings to this team, and he’s only gotten better since last season.

The bulk of the experience in this Bruins line up comes from the five players who were around for the B’s Stanley Cup victory in 2011. Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, David Krejci and Tuukka Rask. Let’s see how they’ve done this year:

Patrice Bergeron had the highest points total of his career, with 79 points in only 65 games. His previous high was 73 in 81 games in 2005. IN 2005! Brad Marchand cracked 100 points for the first time in his career. David Krejci tied his career-high points total at 73 (tied with his 2008 total). Zdeno Chara just re-upped for another season with the Bruins and Tuukka Rask finished the year playing some of his best hockey.

The fact that Bergeron, Marchand and Krejci are all in their 30’s and playing their best hockey is ridiculous. Only David Krejci and Brad Marchand have played the full season for the Bruins, which says even more to these ridiculous numbers from Patrice Bergeron.
