6. New York Giants – Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon

The Giants have delayed finding a legitimate successor to Eli Manning for years, including last year when they famously passed on Sam Darnold. New York could take quarterback Dwayne Haskins, but if Justin Herbert didn’t return to Oregon, he could be their preferred choice.

Herbert elected to return to Oregon for his senior season despite possibilities he could be the No. 1 overall pick. After battling through some injuries, Herbert wanted to have the full college season, and success with the Ducks, where he’ll be teammates with his brother, in his native Eugene, before departing for the NFL.

Not a finished product, but Herbert would give the Giants the option to play Manning until it’s clear Herbert has mastered enough of the playbook. At some point, the Giants have to have their succession plan in place, and in this type of make believe draft, there will never be more quarterbacks for them to choose from. They can’t pass on one this time.
