2019 NFL mock draft: Bengals draft Drew Lock to replace Andy Dalton
By Brad Weiss
The Green Bay Packers come into the 2019 NFL Draft holding two first round picks, this after trading with the New Orleans Saints during the 2018 NFL Draft. During the 2018 NFL season, the Packers were one of the more disappointing teams in football, and the hope is that a new head coach can start to turn this thing around.
Prior to the close of the 2018 NFL season, the Packers fired long-time head coach Mike McCarthy, who led the team to a Super Bowl title. The bad blood between McCarthy and star quarterback Aaron Rodgers became too much, and it was time to turn the page, as there was not enough success during their time together.
In 2019, the reins will be handed a first-time head coach in Matt LaFleur, and his main objective early on will be finding a way to work productively with Rodgers. With his first ever first round pick as an NFL head coach, he may want to give Rodgers the most elite tight end weapon in this draft class in the person of T.J. Hockenson from Iowa.
There is plenty of debate as to whether Hockenson, or teammate Noah Fant are the best tight ends in this draft, but Hockenson is perfect for this Packers offense. Rodgers is always at his best when he has a pass-catching tight end, and in Hockenson, he could find a player that could be one of the better receivers at his position in football early in his career.
