4. Cody Ford

Unlike Simmons, there are no injury concerns about Ford heading into the draft. There are however, legitimate questions about what position he’ll play at the next level.

Some scouts believe he can continue to play right tackle as he did at Oklahoma. He’s never going to be an elite pass blocker, but he can mash opposing defensive linemen in the run game.

Other scouts believe that Ford’s future lies further inside. Those who don’t think his foot speed will hold up on the outside do project him to be a potential difference maker at guard. That’s where his mauler mentality can really pay dividends for an offense.

Tackles are still more valuable assets in the NFL than guards, but the gap is closing. The questions about Ford’s position don’t fully explain the wide range of outcomes you see for him in mock drafts all over the internet.

Ford definitely has a chance to go as high as No. 16. to the Panthers, but he could also fall somewhere into the 30s as well. Smart money has him in the first round, but exactly where is a really tough question to answer at this point.
