4. Cody Ford

Ford is a prospect who’s been rocketing up mock drafts recently, but questions about his position may cause him to slip down to No. 31. Scouts who see him as a right tackle have no problem with him in the middle of the round. Teams that see him purely as a guard will drop him to the bottom of round 1 or the beginning of round 2.

If he does make it to the Rams’ pick, they’ll be very tempted to end his slide. The organization made the tough choice to let several key veterans leave this offseason. Adding a young building block like Ford would make McVay feel a lot better about how his line will perform next season.

Everyone thinks of the Rams as a passing attack, but much of what they do is predicated on play action. That means their offense has to run the ball effectively. Adding a mauling guard like Ford could help Todd Gurley get to the second level a lot easier next season.

In the end, it’s safe to expect Ford to go just before the Rams go on the clock. They’d love to be the team who snaps him up, but they likely represent his floor. Ford dropping this far isn’t impossible, but it’s improbable.
