2019 NFL mock draft: Kyler Murray finally goes to Cardinals
By Brad Weiss
Prior to the new league year even beginning, the Denver Broncos agreed in principle to a trade for Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco. Flacco was supplanted by rookie Lamar Jackson after being injured last season, and Jackson, the team’s second of two first round picks in 2018, helped the Ravens to an AFC North division title.
With the addition of Flacco under center, the Broncos are upgrading the quarterback position, as they rolled with Case Keenum last year. Still, sitting at No. 10 overall in the first round, and with Dwayne Haskins still available, it would be hard for the Broncos to pass on bringing in such a talented young quarterback.
During his only year is the starter for the Ohio State Buckeyes, Haskins threw for 50 touchdowns, leading the team to a Rose Bowl victory over Washington. He has the arm taleng to make all the throws of the NFL level, and would learn a lot from Broncos executive John Elway, who just happens to be one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history.
The Broncos got some stunning production from two rookie weapons last year in wide receiver Courtland Sutton and running back Philip Lindsay, two players that should be good for a very long time. While Flacco should be serviceable in 2019 for the Broncos, the team can’t pass up on Haskins, as he should be the future in Denver.
