2. The Super Bowl ‘window’ is wide open

Shocker—a team that lost in the AFC Championship game just a few months ago is back and ready to contend with the reigning NFL MVP at quarterback. There is simply no time to waste for Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes when it comes to chasing a championship. This team is ready to win—now.

The Chiefs made this statement loud and clear by adding Clark at such a steep cost. Rather than to save and roll over a large chunk of cap space into next season that they held prior to the trade, Veach maintained his aggressive nature and will absorb a hefty cap hit to accommodate for Clark’s new contract.

Is it expensive? Absolutely. But if Clark winds up being a major contributor to Kansas City’s first Super Bowl victory since 1970, it will be a price well worth it.
