New Orleans Saints

The Saints sit in a similar situation as the Bears, they came a blown pass interference call away from playing in the Super Bowl this last year. They have a roster full of talent and are led by one of the greatest quarterbacks in the game, Drew Brees. Brees is one of the greatest quarterbacks of this generation and paired with Head Coach Sean Payton, the Saints have put some high-scoring offenses on the field and even won a Super Bowl in 2009.

But Brees is now 40 years old, and although he shows no signs of slowing down and players are playing later into their careers than ever, he will slow down eventually. When Brees finally decides to call it quits the Saints should have a young quarterback waiting in the wings that they have been grooming under Brees to fill the void that is quarterback purgatory.

While this year seems like an excellent year to snatch a quarterback early in the draft to sit under Brees for a year or two, the Saints do not currently have a pick until the end of the second round. They could take a quarterback like Will Grier or Jarrett Stidham and hope for the best, but in all likelihood, they want a top quarterback prospect. Last year they traded up to grab Marcus Davenport so they are lacking a first rounder this year.

While Davenport showed signs of potential last year he managed to only record 4.5 sacks and 22 combined tackles, not exactly the type of production you want from a guy you moved up to No. 14 to draft.  While the Saints likely still have a few years left with Brees the day will come when it is time to move on, and the Saints should be ready when that time comes.
